Productivity is a topic on The Daily Nickel, but never have we really talked about the foundation for productivity. That foundation for getting things done is getting a good nights sleep and here are three tips that will help you to get a good nights sleep every night no matter how busy you are.
- Your phone should have its own room. Whenever I hear my phone buzz or go off I want to grab it and see what is going on. Whether it is an email or a news article about something I have to know. For this reason, I recommend you either turn your phone on “do not disturb mode” or out your phone in another room when you come to go to sleep. It may seem childish but simply moving your phone out of your room and somewhere else can help you get a better nights sleep.
- The Thirty-Minute rule. I’ve heard this rule from so many people, and the truth of the matter is that it is the truth. Although some people may think it is a myth or wrong I personally find it a lot better when I use it. The rule is simple, don’t touch your phone or devices thirty minutes before you are ready to sleep. By avoiding the blue light our brains are better able to produce hormones that help us get to sleep.
- Your workday should end. Unless something is on fire I don’t think that any emergency is big enough to keep you up for. Either get to bed at a certain time and forget about everything else or just don’t sleep, is my opinion on the matter. If everyone stayed up to deal with every problem no matter how big or small you would never get any sleep. Just stop working at (blank) and forget about everything. Unless you work from home you should try to keep your job in the office and by being well rested you can get everything done in the office and avoid the vicious cycle of homework leading to less sleep leading to more homework.
All in all, sleep is king, and following these few steps can really help to make your sleep cycles better. Good Luck and Nickel on!
